A personal word from chris & Lisa

Once again, I apologize for the delay in getting regular updates to you. The last couple of years, and particularly the last 7 months have brought us some unique and at times intense personal challenges. As most of you know, December 28th, 2018 was quite a day. On that day it was our 33rd wedding anniversary, Lisa’s mom passed away and Lisa found out she had breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes. In the days that followed we moved into a new home and moved my mother, Phyllis into our home with us. It has been a blessing to have mom with us during this season. Lisa is making good progress in her cancer treatment. She went through chemotherapy, she had a bilateral mastectomy and we are preparing now for 6 weeks of radiation. The prognosis is good, and we are believing she will be cancer free when all is said and done. We are so thankful for the prayers of friends and family and for the healing work of God and of good doctors!  I am also grateful for a board and supervisors who function in understanding and grace as we do our best to balance work and family during this time.

happenings in the dcp

Still, we have been moving forward with identifying and training leaders, building strategic ministry partnerships, focusing on multiplication and planting churches. Here are some highlights:

  • January: We held our EXPLORE event in Eugene, OR with 16 participants dreaming and considering church planting followed by an excellent church planters’ training cluster.
  • April 12: DCP Cluster Training in Anaheim, CA
  • April 21: NexGen church, under the leadership if Charles & Ny Kao, launched in Rosemead, California and they are reaching a largely Cambodian community with the Gospel!
  • April 25 & 26: Assessment Center in Eugene, OR where we assessed couples considering planting a new church in the Eugene/Springfield area!
  • June 18-20: Open Bible National Convention in Schaumburg, IL. Here we were able to share our vision and feature a video of our growing Eritrean church plant in San Francisco.
  • June 25: Assessment Center in Bremerton, WA. I had the privilege of leading an planters’ assessment for the Cascadia Diocese of the Anglican Church of North America. We are grateful for this growing partnership through our board member, Ryan Brotherton.

New churches

  • NexGen Church, Rosemead, CA continues to gain momentum!
  • Urban Life Church in Chula Vista, CA led by Oliver and Clavel Silva is getting ready to officially launch in September!
  • Puente de Fe in Stockton, CA led by Pastors Julio and Mara Fabian.
  • Izaak & Bre Downing are preparing to launch a new church in Palmer, AK!
  • Nick & Kim Wing, whom we assessed in April, are in the proposal stages for a new church plant in Springfield, OR.
  • Mickey & Ella Jordan, whom we assessed in June, are preparing to plant a church with the Anglican Church of North America.
  • In our emphasis on multiplication, we have officially partnered with two “mother churches” who are committed to sending out a church plant within three years, and we are in dialogue with three additional churches who want to be multiplying churches.

thank you!

Discover Church Planting is continuing to raise up leaders who are planting the Gospel in new places to reach new people. Generations from now, family destinies will be forever changed because of a single individual reached for Jesus by one of our church plants. I am convinced this is the most important work in the world. And we could not do this without your prayers, encouragement, partnership and financial support.  We have never been more grateful to be a part of a community of people committed to the mission of loving God and loving others as we have been in this last season.

We love you!

Chris & Lisa
